Gals About Town: A Day With Chagall

Vacation spent up north for some time, then headed to the beach for five days for further relaxation. I even gave myself two days to just get caught up at home, but that lasted about four hours after being home when I got a call from some friends who suggested to go see the Chagall Art exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Boy word travels fast when one is back! And the Mistress isn't one to pass up going to see some art and support it! And the PMofA is on a roll lately ,beginning with Henri Matisse, followed by Pablo Picasso in the late winter followed by the stunning Roberto Capucci show, the Philadelphia Museum of Art has been offering focused close-ups of its exceptional holdings of early modernist art. Now this impressive sequence continues with " Paris Through the Window: Marc Chagall and His Circle ," a look at the emigre artists from Eastern Europe who helped to make Paris the center of the artistic avant-garde. And a very interesting show it was. Besides Chagall, whose first Paris residence lasted three years, the show's 26 artists include a number of major talents, from Alexander Archipenko and Jacques Lipchitz to Fernand Léger, Robert Delaunay, Amedeo Modigliani, Jules Pascin, Chaim Soutine, Louis Marcoussis, Natalia Goncharova, Jean Metzinger, and Ossip Zadkine. I was so glad to go. I had knew of Chagall's works but I don't think I ever really recalled seeing much of his work. Afterwards my obsession with Steven Starr restaurants continued with dinner at Granite Hill the restaurant inside the museum that got a makeover and new ownership by Steven Starr of the restaurant. So off we went to Granite Hill to par take. Would there be pink chandeliers? Booths recessed inside picture frames? Starr venues snap, crackle, and pop. As the concert master of 13 restaurants in Philadelphia, Starr is known for glamorama – themey spaces with reliable, skillfully prepared food. Camp meets haute cuisine. You get the picture y'all! How strange then to find myself seated in this room: a surgical space with a Hopper-esque chill. Very understated for a Starr place, sort of boring. Lets hope the food was better, and it was. My dinner arrived with rafts of chicken schnitzel sailed into the room, each potato-encrusted slab gleaming with a perfectly poached quail egg, and my side of crab cakes placed like costume jewelry on the plate on either side of a carrot topiary

I can't believe you through a curve at us and re appeared here first, you naughty Mistress, and how did I miss you started a joint blog with the swank girls. But I LOVE Marc Chagall's work, one of my faves. My hallways is hanging with the repros you can buy at the gifts shops. My kids are always like that art is so ugly. One day they will see his beauty. The food looks so good, and that quail egg, a nice suprise! So glad your back. Ill be read this blog now too, now I have to bad read here.
