Chivas USA set to host San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday Night

The camps are a new and unique outreach initiative that will connect the game of soccer to children and youth with special needs.  The first event was in collaboration with the non-profit organization World Access for the Blind and hosted a group of fifty visually impaired children, youth and their families. Each camp will be in support of youth facing a variety of illnesses and physical challenges including children with cancer and developmental disorders.  To ensure that the needs of each special needs group is met, each camp will be coordinated with different activities and with the support of specialized staff from participating non-profit groups.  Camps will take place at the Home Depot Center and feature appearances by the ChivaFighter, ChivaGirls, as well as special activities and prizes for both children and families.

The players also taped public service announcements aimed at creating awareness about the need for more individuals to join the national bone marrow registry list. Over the course of this summer, Chivas USA will designate part of the proceeds from the ticket sales from a number of home matches to benefit PADRES, all of which will culminate with a unique night scheduled for September.

Lone Peak Volleyball

Sometimes this means playing with a team of different age or ability than you'd like.  Use your playing time to improve yourself and your team.  Use your bench time to encourage and support others. Sometimes this means a player may need to play a position that isn't her favorite in order to get floor time-- this is actually a great opportunity for you to practice playing a position that the coaches need-- accept it cheerfully as a fabulous opportunity to become the person who fills that need! Please keep in mind that the major goal of these summer camps is to get plenty of ball touches--  not to win a t-shirt.  Summer camps are for practice.  This is the time when the coaches can try different combinations of players for synergy or ask players to try new things-- because although winning summer tourneys is nice, improving our players for the fall is a higher priority. We will do our best to accommodate as many players as possible.  Seniors and Juniors will receive first priority, but if sufficient younger players request consideration, we may be able to provide teams for them.  We will gather early Wednesday morning (usually 6am) to meet a bus in the Lehi H.S. parking lot.  (We will return to the same location Saturday afternoon/evening-- usually around dinner time.)  Players may want to bring a snack as well as cash for the trip down, because there is no guaranteed pit-stop.  (McDonald's and Denny's are adjacent to our housing, so barring emergency, everyone should have time after we check-in to grab something before seeding-pools begin at 2pm.) We will be staying at the Clarion Suites this year-- players are assigned to rooms/roommates by the coaching staff.  Four girls to a room (two to a bed).  Parents need to be aware that the coaching staff meters cell phone usage when we are on road trips.  Players will be given access to contact parents at some point each evening, but will not have free access to a cell device during the day.  (Parents of those accepted to the camp will be given staff contact instructions in case of emergency.) Over the course of the four-day camp each team will play over a dozen matches.  While playing a lot of volleyball is the main objective of this camp, hopefully players will get to know one another better off-the-court as well.  During down-time, girls may use the outdoor pool, whirlpool, and fitness center at the hotel.
