Roving hot dog cart caters to gourmet tastes
Have you seen Brava's Dogs hot dog cart downtown? Owner Bo Gonzalez sells dogs from his portable cart at various downtown locations.
He's at the corner of Calhoun and Wayne streets 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursdays, and on The Landing 11 p.m.-4 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Gonzalez and his cart also are at the East State Village Farmers Market noon-4 p.m. Sundays.
He sells 100 percent beef hot dogs with various toppings and also offers a special: two gourmet hot dogs, chips and a drink for $5. His Brava dog is topped with homemade chili sauce and potato sticks drizzled with a secret mayonnaise-based sauce.
Gonzalez, whose family is from Spain, eventually would like to open up a food truck here serving Spanish tapas.
T8ste Tizzzzz (pronounced “taste this”) Barbecue and Soul Food has opened at 2801 Lower Huntington Road.
Owner Curtis Gregory has a smoker on site. Brisket, ham, turkey, pulled pork, ribs, chicken, burgers and sausage are all on the menu. Sides include cheesy corn, collard greens, dirty rice, Cole slaw, potato salad and baked beans. For $8.99, you can get a half-pound sandwich and home fries.
“We do everything fresh,” Gregory says.

Fazoli's has changed the way food is delivered to dine-in patrons.
Now, with the expanded service program, instead of ordering and returning to the counter to get their food, patrons' meals will be delivered to their table after they've ordered and paid for them. In addition, traditional plates and silverware have replaced Styrofoam, plastic and paper.
In Fort Wayne, Fazoli's is at 439 W. Coliseum Blvd., 6525 Stellhorn Drive and 5909 Covington Road. Fazoli's opens at 10:30 a.m. seven days a week, closing at 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and at 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
DeBrand Chocolatier is hosting extended public tours during the Fort Wayne Newspapers Three Rivers Festival at its Auburn Road location, 10105 Auburn Park Drive. Tours are $5 per person, with a $5 rebate off a purchase of $10 or more. No reservations are required. Open tour times: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday-Saturday and Monday-July 16; noon-5 p.m. Sunday.
Cooking demoThe Fresh Market's July Fresh Flavors Demo features tropical grilled shrimp with curried yogurt sauce and zesty lemon, fennel and feta salad. Chef Dyeaka Wilson will prepare the meal 3-6 p.m. at the store at 6306 W. Jefferson Blvd. Guests can drop in any time during the event, which is free.

The Secret Saturdays Finale
Last night, Cartoon Network aired what may have been the series finale for “The Secret Saturdays.” If it was, I want to say out loud that the producers did a wonderful job tying up all of story threads and left the viewer feeling complete. If it wasn’t, I just don’t know how you match, let alone exceed what was broadcasted last night.
Every character stayed in character, especially Drew Saturday, whose whining about things being dangerous for her “baby boy,” Zak, frankly got on my nerves. But in time,I came to understand Drew because she’d lost her parents when she was five and her protectiveness of her family was in reaction to that lost.
The episode, “ The War of the Cryptids ” found Drew and her brother getting closure on the deaths of their parents after 27 years; Zak coming to grips with his Kur powers and Argost discovering the true cost of achieving his dream.
What I really found interesting was that every character introduced in this series had a purpose for introduction and contributed to the outcome of the finale. Let me say that again, every character introduced, whether in season one or in the next to the last episode had a purpose. There are not a lot of series that could say that.
This was a series that I enjoyed more than any other cartoon series I’ve ever watched and that includes Justice League. It was complete. Yes, I’d like another season, but it’s okay if it doesn’t happen. This series has been that good.
