Top 10 greatest William Fichtner films

William Fichtner might not have achieved the status of household name yet, but to those familiar with his work, he inspires as much loyalty from fans as he does from the directors and producers that have repeatedly cast him in their films over the years.

Focusing on his more geek-centric films, I'll let his body of work and the sheer range and variety of his performances sell the quality of the man. He's certainly an actor I've admired and followed for many years now.

I'll freely admit that The Perfect Storm

Well, yes, I appreciate that this may seem like an incredible cheat to start with, but it's to give an example of some of the more geek-friendly films he's made small appearances in, be they dramatic or comical, and all three of these were released in 1995.

Fichtner excels at making small roles memorable, but I thought it was important to draw attention to those that almost qualify as ‘blink and you'll miss them', those that have helped build up his resume and reputation.

Strange Days is Kathryn Bigelow's racially tense sci-fi movie, which sees a bedraggled Ralph Fiennes caught up in a murder cover-up, in a film that was far better than I remember it being. Fichtner plays a cop partnered with an out of control Vincent D'Onofrio, in a mostly silent role, but one that's integral to the film's narrative.

Russell Crowe chews all the scenery beyond measure in Virtuosity is every bit the over the top lunacy you'd expect from a film starring Will Ferrell and Jon Heder, as rival figure skaters forced to team up. Fichtner appears only for the first ten minutes or so of the film and, sadly, doesn't reappear, but plays a slightly camp and utterly cruel billionaire who buys up a young talented orphan, just to make him a success. The orphan grows into Heder's character, who's then literally dumped at that side of a road when his career comes to an end.

Date Night stars the esteemed comedy duo of Steve Carell and Tina Fey and was a film I read mixed reviews about. Yet, I fell in love with the sheer charm of both leads and wasn't really worried by the more predictable elements of the plot, such as it is. It's utterly rewatchable, and alongside Fichtner's sleazy district attorney, features the best performance I've seen from Mark Wahlberg in a long, long time.

Fichtner's main scene, which comes towards the end of the film, is a glorious chance to watch him make Carell and Fey dance for his sexual pleasure, but I'll say no more.

Eagle Rock Teen Time

For comedy, try Mr. Bean's Vacation, High Fidelity or Nacho Libre. Or if you want to stick with the Fourth of July theme, try Independence Day, Apollo 13, Forrest Gump, Top Gun or The American President. Don't have a backyard pool?

There are many things I love about Equilibrium, from Christian Bale's calm psychosis when rescuing a puppy, a brief but touching appearance from Sean Bean, the general ambience of the film, to the films' explosive and incredibly exciting action scenes

Jason Statham and the Lock, Stock Gang

It was the biggest thing since Mr Bean, and it put writer-director Guy Ritchie and his producing partner Matthew Vaughn firmly on Hollywood's radar. As we know, those guys have had plenty of ups and downs since then. Their next project, Snatch,

He's watched what must be half a dozen shows I've told him about since then, I suppose "you should check this modern western/crime show" isn't as intriguing as "you should check this fantasy show with swords, dragons, tits, blood, and Sean Bean.

Apocalypse Now Blu-Ray Review

The best film of all time is almost certainly Rear Window, or maybe Mr Bean's Holiday. But Apocalypse Now is my personal favourite. My go-to film. The one I watch once or twice a year, when I want something to revel in. It's been like this since I was

Home Cinema @ The Digital Fix - Mr Bean DVDs in March - DVD Times

Universal Pictures have announced a trio of Mr Bean DVD titles for 19th March 2007. Released in advance of Mr Bean’s Holiday theatrical release on 30th March this trio of UK Region 2 DVD releases includes new episodes from the original TV series, the animated series and finally a new two-disc edition of the original movie. Inside each DVD you’ll find a free children’s pass to any Vue Cinema. Mr Bean 4 (£19.99) includes 3 episodes from the original classic television series that first introduced the hapless Mr Bean to audiences in the UK in 1990s. The episodes are: Do It Yourself Mr Bean in which Mr Bean celebrates New Year’s Eve and finds a new way of transporting his shopping, Back to School Mr Bean where Mr Bean enjoys science, art and judo and Tee Off Mr Bean where Mr Bean visits the launderette and discovers the pleasures of Crazy Golf! I'm a fan of the original Bean TV series I found the Mr. Bean movie one of the most boring experiences of my life. Mr. Bean of course has to come to America since the movie is funded by a US studio and he teams up with a guy that looks like a cabbage in a plot that has all the excitement and humor of a cabbage.I have the 3 disc set The Whole Bean which contains all the Rowan Atkinson TV episodes (I've heard complaints of moments cut out but there's nothing here that I feel I'm seriously missing out on) with a bonus documentary and extra sketches and there's nothing here that I want. They should have released the Mr. Bean TV episodes in a box set, very expensive for only 3 episodes per disk!  It should be uncut as there's a nunchaku reference in one of the episodes and all scenes with the weapon in movies has been waived.  Bean doesn't use them, there just a tiny snippet of an unlikable man at the Launderette about to wash his Martial Arts Gi and he theatens Bean and slams his weaponary on the top of the washing machine.  I know this was cut when it was aired in the UK, in fact the episode was hardly shown. The movie, well firstly I thought the deleted scenes would make it on there, as it was mentioned by Davids.  I liked the intros by Mel and Rowan on the tape, even though I remember Rowan looking very tired and bored through the whole featurette.  It was one of the first times I stuck with the VHS version than the vanilla DVD of the film.
