The Adventures of Nat Selleck and Eva Lou Shinn is satire of a new kind. It is based solidly on the writings of historical persons whose names are altered playfully and whose ideas are represented as living beings or, in some cases, as gods or goddesses. The reader is challenged to discover the identity of the real persons and ideas with the help of the “Cast of Characters” at the end of the story. He or she is also challenged to decide whether the author is justified in making fun of some of the arguments of some of the scientists whose writings the author finds open to ridicule.
