A SCHOLAR GOES TO WAR
"... as good a school as Harvard ..."
For
the scholar, action is mental. And as I think back over the time
spent in training camps and then in India, Iran, Palestine, and
Italy--with side trips to Egypt, Cyprus, Lebanon, and Siria--I realize
that the most active education of my life took place during those
years. The Army is as aood a school as Harvard in its own way.
That so little was learned from so vast an education is one of the
great tragedies of war.
